What are common beagle health problems?
I'm looking at getting a beagle puppy and I'm trying to research whether this is the right breed for me. I went to http://clubs.akc.org/NBC/beagle_health_problems.htm#A to find a list of beagle health problems, but this is a looooooooong list. Are beagles an unhealthy breed? Or is this just an exhaustive list? What are common beagle health problems, ones to really watch for and ask the breeder about?

beagles have a couple health problems
Beagles may be prone to epilepsy, but this can be controlled with medication. Hypothyroidism and a number of types of dwarfism occur in Beagles. Two conditions in particular are unique to the breed: Funny Puppy, in which the puppy is slow to develop and eventually develops weak legs, a crooked back and although normally healthy, is prone to range of illnesses; Hip dysplasia, common in Harriers and in some larger breeds, is rarely considered a problem in Beagles. Beagles are considered a chondrodystrophic breed, meaning that they are prone to types of disk diseases.
In rare cases, Beagles may develop immune mediated polygenic arthritis (where the immune system attacks the joints) even at a young age. The symptoms can sometimes be relieved by steroid treatments.
Beagles may develop Trigeminal Neuropathy. The beagle is unable to close their mouths due to flaccid paralysis or paresis of the muscles innervated by the mandibular branch of the trigeminal nerve. This may cause the mouth to stay open. Recovery time is around 22 days. Corticosteroid therapy is often prescribed.

Mini beagles?
If mini or pocket beagles AKC recognized? and you have a website where you can find more information about them? Please do not tell me to google, if you have more information about them can you tell me, Thanks! Does anyone here ever owned one? was a good experience or bad? was difficult or easy to train, does your dog listen or running a lot. any info would be great. As I heard long ago that when used by hunters as in small enough to pass under the bushes to drive the rabbits, hunters also could put them in their saddlebags, this is where they got their pocket beagles names? that's what I hear, but anyway have you ever had one?
For AKC Beagles come in two sizes 13 "and 15". The mini "Beagle" would simply be a "designer" beagle. Beware of anyone who sells "mini" of it, or "glass water "that as there is always a purebred dog. Most often, when someone is trying to reduce a dog, that crosses a small dog different race to the size you want. You may be referring only to the lower of the two hounds, as these fall in the 13 "category. Any dog up to 13 "fall into this category. Therefore, if someone is trying to sell you, say, 8" beagle, just be the 13 " Beagle. Always ask to see the parents of the litter.
