Can I get AKC for my dog?
I m currently living in the US with my Canadian Chocolate Lab Charlie. Charlie did not come with paper but i have several people asking me if he can stud. He did not come with AKC papers and after contact with the breeder she stated she did not want to put the effort in to fill in his forms. How can i get him AKC certified? Is there a DNA test or any test that could be used to get his AKC?
Both the Dam and Sire of your dog would have to have been registered with the AKC for the litter to have been registered.
There is no way you will be able to get your dog registered with the AKC since the breeder did not have the Dam and Sire registered or if they were and she as you stated didn't want to be bothered you can't register him.
More than likely the breeder didn't have any of her dogs registered

lab breeders? I need advice.?
I'm planning on buying a puppy AKC lab. Here is the email from the owner. Born Feb. 8 and he turned 6 weeks old on Monday. The mother is 5 years old and the father 3. This is the second litter that has been our man and each puppy has lived in the two litters. Our men and women are HUGE! I would say that both weigh around 100 pounds. Yes, I have AKC papers and you will also receive a copy of the mother and father five years pedigree. They have been wormed (3) times so far and have had their first round of shots. Dew claws have not been removed, because I have to do .... I think personal preference and do not like have to do unless the hunters. "What do you think? What things should I look for the fulfillment of these puppies?
see the link Keezy and gave Raven, which is the best advice on what you need to find a breeder. Health Screening is something that ALL reputable breeders do without it do not touch. There is NO excuse for medical tests. The fact that a dog is registered AKJC does not make the dog or a reputable breeder, unfortunately. AKC is only one record. # Contact with the breed club for a list of members. Choose the breeder and then choose the puppy.
