Should AKC pull the Eukanuba show from California, or should it be boycotted?
In light of the mandatory spay/neuter bill that is rapidly passing throught the CA legislature, do you think that AKC should, despite the fact it will lose money, pull the AKC/Eukanuba Nationals from California?
Alternatively, do you think dog show people should boycott the show?
Eukanuba will be held in FL in 2010. The 2009 show is still in Long Beach.
Boycotting would let AKC know that we are displeased with their lack of effort in allowing this bill to continue.
Additionally, the bill contains provisions that "one strike and you're out". If your intact show dog escapes and is caught by animal control, s/he must be neutered before they will release it. No exceptions.
AKC is supporting the CA economy by continuing to hold Euk in Long Beach this year...
I believe the Eukanuba/Invitational is already moving to Florida.
Also, what difference would that make to the spay/neuter bill? Do you think anyone would make the correlation? The people who are in favor of the spay/neuter bill already have a low opinion of dog people, so I doubt it would make any difference.
EDT -- What do you want AKC to do about it? I know for a fact that they are working very hard to defeat this bill. They got it defeated twice before, but the proponents are extremely vocal and seem to have an unlimited source of revenue.
I'm not going to the Invitational (went once -- had a good time, did well), but again, I don't see what boycotting it intentionally would accomplish. AKC really doesn't have any choice, since it's under contract with Eukanuba for this year.
