Different types of American Bulldogs?
I am getting an American Bulldog. The breeder says it has Mufassa bloodlines. What does that mean exactly? I looked online and saw "Johnson" and "Hybrid" and "Southern whites" types but nothing about Mufassa. Anyone Know?
Mufassa was a champion American Bulldog. The breeder is referring to his bloodlines, which although Mufassa was an awesome dog who sired many champion dogs, doesn't mean much. Even an American Bulldog with a mind-blowing pedigree can be pet quality.
So, when choosing your puppy, concentrate on the temperament and heath of each puppy rather than their bloodline unless you are looking for a dog that will compete. You'll want to make sure that the parents have had their hips certified with OFA with a Good result at the minimum. The main health issue with American Bulldogs is Hip Dysplasia, however, you may also want to check if they have been CERF certified and the OFA also recommends a DNA test for Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinosis (NCL).
