American Revolution For Kids Q&A
What were houses like in the American Revolution?
Im writing a historical fiction paper on what life would have been like in the revolution. Would many families live on a farm or have animals? What kind of chores would the kids have to do? Also, what would kids do for fun?
Thank you, so much.
Houses physically ranged from no houses (hobos and bums) to extravagant mansions (rich land owners and merchants) However, most houses, about 96% in boston were middle class homes, made for a small family. Down south, most people were slaves and servants working on fields. In the north, most men would be lawyers, smiths of some kind, crews on a ship, or merchants. women were 99% of the time housewives. children were supposed to obey every whim of their parents and show constant respect. Sometimes, kids became apprentices for different fields to become experts like silversmiths. most people didn't own any animal more than a pet. Children would play with dolls or wooden toys for fun, but nothing close to anything we have today. the mother usually taught her children but there were schools. the father made all the money for the house. a family was usually either for or against the revolution. names like Ben Franklin, Sam Adams, and Thomas Paine would have been renown or infamous. However, there was a danger of being a loner in either group. if you were an open rebel or loyalist living in a community that was mainly of the other party, you and your family would be in danger of prosecution, discrimination, and violence. riots became common and there was a lot of distrust in places where the two sides mingled. men, and often boys would join the rebel army and die of starvation or bullets. the rebels didn't have a huge army so there was a shortage on support, rations, and medical supplies. sometimes boys would run off to become soldiers, ignorant of the consequences.

American Revolution For Kids Q&A
Some of the questions ......... : D?
1.) What do children do during the American Revolution? 2.) What was the children's program during the American Revolution 3.) A information about children during the American Revolution would be a great help!? The reason these questions are because I'm writing a novel perspective a child of the American Revolution. THX ~ Amanda
In addition to men, women and children were also in the military. Often their husbands and fathers were soldiers, so women and children living with the army. The women had different jobs in the field. Washed and mended clothes, and did some cooking and cleaning. Sold cider and rum, and were the nurses. They were often called "camp followers" because they followed the Army, as it went from one camp to another. The work I did was important and that keeps the fields of health and functioning smoothly. Children in the army had to work too. They were expected to be as busy as adults. Drew water and firewood collection. Children serve as corridors that carry messages from one person to another. Some children became military musicians who played the fife and drum. Girls helped their mothers with cooking, cleaning, and mending and washing clothing. The children had time to work because there was no school in the military. It was a hard life traveling with the Army, but women and children sometimes it was to keep the family together. In addition, a parent or spouse in the military was unable to help his wife or children at home. And if the British controlled the land where you lived, it may not be safe to stay there. For example, New York, Long Island, Staten Island and all were under British rule. Also, if you were loyal to the king and the rebels controlled the land where you lived, but also safe for you to stay there. The army took care of their families. Women fed diets and children half rations quarter. They were given shelter and protection. Those who wash clothes or became musicians were paid for their work. There is a video called "Dear America" and the star she is a girl and shows what it was like if you were a girl in the Revolutionary War. I hope this and good luck helped her novel!
