If you want to work with animals it would be helpful to get as much experience related to the career you want to pursue as you can. Sometimes places tend to look more at your experience than your degree.
You can gain experience by going to camps, volunteering, an internship, a job, etc.

Have you thought about becoming a veterinarian? You can focus but also gain exposure to other animals. In addition, What about animal rescue? maybe the ASPCA (I am a big supporter). There are plenty of non-profit. Just keep your eyes open! good luck!
