Australian Shepherd In South Texas Q&A

Will my Aussie's hair grow back different if I were to buzz it?

I have a 4 year old Australian Shepherd with abnormally soft hair for a dog. She is also fluffy for sure, but not nearly as fluffy as other Aussie's I've seen. I really like her hair and she looks beautiful with it, but I live in South- East, Texas and it gets hot down here. If I were to shave her for summer, would her hair grow back the same or differently?

I have a 3 year old Aussie is who shaved at this moment. We live in a super super hot climate so last year we took the chance and shaved her, hoping hoping hoping that her hair would come back as cotton soft as it was. Luckily for us - it did! It takes about 5 months to get it back to it's full form. We shaved her in March and right now it's almost back to being completely long again.

*edit*

My Aussie had her hair shaved extremely short this time (not by choice, they just went that short) and it is growing back, so that is silly to say it won't. As for the insulating system, it only works so much. When the temperature reaches 110 degrees like it does here it stops "cooling" them so much and becomes a hinderance. You can tell my Aussie is more comfortable outside and lasts longer with shorter hair in the summertime.
