What should I do? Help!!!?
I have an Australian Shepherd pup that I put up for sale in our local online ads. An older man called about him and said that he wanted him and he would be an inside dog. In the ad I said he likes to be inside,but I don't really want him to be an inside dog 98% of the time like I think this man would do. Aussies are working dogs and need to have a job and get their exercise. Right now I'm keeping him inside with me,but I go outside and play and run with him severl times in the day.I'm really worried about this because I don't know if this man would give him the exercise he needs everyday or what would happen to him. The guy said he raises Aussies,so if that isn't bad enough is he going to end up as a sire for hundreds of puppies?? I want him to have the best and I really need advise. He wants to meet us half way and buy him tommorow. I really want to see where he will be living and just get the right feel about him and the surroundings before he just takes him. HELP!!!
Just like you side, Aussies are working dogs. They need to be outside where they can do what they do best HERD.
Personally, I don't think any Australian Shepherd should be kept inside. They are outside working dogs. The breed was put on this earth to herd and protect others. Whether its farm animals, kids, adults, cats... They grow extra thick hair in the winter and loose most of it in the summer. These dogs need to be outside. The only reason I can think of as to why one would bring an Aussie inside would be to protect them from becoming prey, or in case of extremely cold weather.
I have personally raised and worked these dogs for 20 years. And have yet to find one that won't put up a fight to get out doors.
