How do i get a purebred puppy without going through puppy mill or backyard breeder? Australian shepherd?
I have searched petfinder for months. I am in south florida and i just have no idea how to do this. I have two rescue dogs already and I love them to pieces, but my boyfriend would love a third dog that he can compete with in terms of show and agility. Please help. He wants an australian shepherd. I would love to surprise him for his bday.
i love my aussies i have 2 standards and one mini.. first off i would not recommend an AKC aussie. NSDA is much better.. i have owned both and most of the akc breed for show not for what they are meant to do naturally..the number one thing is to make sure they have had their hips checked and eyes.. and also that no one had breed a merle to a merle that is sooo bad for the dogs.Also you want to make sure that both parents were not naturally docked that can create a back problem when they get older. My youngest is 8mths now the mini and i had been looking for one for a while that would fit into our family . my boy is 3 and my oldest is 13. you want to try to find a working ranch that uses the dogs for work. Not parading around a ring. that is not what aussies should be breed for. the Australian Shepherd club of america is a great outlet ASCA has been registering aussies since the 50s. meeting the parents of the dog is the best way to find out what your aussie is really going to be like. AKC did not even recognized aussies until recent years. go with a NSDR aussie...but not matter what a piece of paper says.. check out the parents and talk to a breeder .and yes always a rescue is a good choice. If you are up to it they always have many that are def and blind due to the merle to merle breeding..
