Capuchin monkey adoption scam?
My mother is interested in buying a Capuchin monkey after she saw an ad in the classifieds advertising one baby, male Capuchin for $350. That seemed a bit fishy to me considering how much Capuchin monkey babies normally cost. Also, I don't think that it would be a good idea for her to keep a pet monkey. That aside, I have read about pet Capuchin scams as well as other exotic animal scams. My mother asked me to e-mail the people who posted the and they responded. For some reason, the pictures they provided were the same pictures which I have seen when I Googled 'baby Capuchins'. These pictures seem to be advertisements which are up to two years old. I'm pretty sure that these people are trying to pull a scam. Doesn't bother me much considering I never thought this was a good idea in the first place. Can anyone else tell me what else I should be looking for - any other signs of a scam?
Ways to tell if it is a scam:
1. Wants you to pay by Western Union or some other similar money transfer
2. Wants you to hurry up and complete the transaction
3. Seems to only care about the money
4. Does not ask any questions to find out if you will provide a good home for the animal (because they don't have it)
5. Can't completely answer questions you have about the animal or do not seem very knowledgeable about its care requirements (because they never raised one)
6. You do a search and find the photos elsewhere on the internet
7. Sometimes they will copy information from breeder websites, so you can try copying parts of the information into a search engine to see if you find anything
