Good idea? (Co-ownership)?
My family and I want this dog, its not a well known breed(Basenji) so there arent many breeders around us. But, we finally found a reputable breeder who breeds show dogs. We didnt want a show dog, but we werent against it. We ended up making a deal with the breeder, we get the dog for 500$(1/2 off the 1000% price!) and its a co-ownership.
The breeder is part owner and he gets to take the dog without question to the 2 main dog shows a year. He also can take the dog to other shows with my permission first. We as well can take the dog to shows instead of him if we want. And also if we go on vacation we can leave the dog with him.
A few people said a co-ownership was a bad idea but I think this aggreement is good. The dog is also a boy and he wont use it for breeding at all. Sound good?
I have co-owned a few dogs and it has always worked out very well.
Make sure EVERYTHING in in writing and read and reread the contract to make sure you agree with all parts of it.
See if once the dog is a Ch show dog if you can neuter him and if they will sign the dog over to you in full. If they want to keep breeding rights to him them have them collect semen and neuter the boy.
