Questions about becoming a dog breeder?
My brother and I are looking into breeding dogs that are registered with the AKC. My first question would be, how do you become a recognized breeder with the AKC? Also, if you have a sire and dam that are both registered with the AKC, then can you breed them and the litter be able to be registered? Thanks.
@Leah, thanks for taking time to answer my question. Yes, assuming that the dogs have passed testing for diseases that could show up later, I just want to know if they could be registered. So, that's all there is to it then? I don't have to do anything special for the AKC to recognize me as a breeder?
@suzy, hey I'm asking a simple, honest question. You got rude first and I don't have to take it.
Nobody sets out to become a breeder. Through Titling in work or conformation shows, and showing a superior dog than the other competitors, the demand will overwhelm you to a point of HAVING to breed. If the progeny of your male also win at major competitions, then his stud service will be in high demand. Basically, you train & compete until demand puts you in the breeding business. When you reach that level, you will have learned what you need to know.

I am interested in becoming a dog breeder?
I'm unemployed and would like to breed dogs. Currently I have a house with many rooms that are not being used. I was thinking I could start raising Siberian Huskies. I have two. The girl is mine. A week ago a man won, but it has some sports-related injuries and probably will recover. Could raise their babies together, then make some of these papers. Then I guess I keep some of the pups and raise them up for more? All However, any suggestion on the opening of a captive-breeding would be helpful. Also, I am limited in the food that I have available for dogs. "I can feed the puppies turkey dinners with mashed potatoes when they are new?
2 dogs received a female n male to ensure that the females larger than males and both are 2 years old get two shots and wormings.when unprotected and females at time of the second week to put the male with his tie left twice and read about the care of a pregnant dog and pups. I am waiting to be approved for a kennel license at this time.
