Becoming An Animal Breeder Q&A
Animal Rescue Shelter Rats or Breeder Rats?
- 3 shelter females that we really like. Have been hand held since birth and seem very affectionate. Litter became to many to care for.
or
- 2 Breeder females, that we think look ok, they are offcourse handheld from birth and we know more about parents temperament and genetic history.
= better to get "safe" rats from breeder that we're moderately excited about or to help out an animal rescue shelter by adopting 3 that we really like?
Here's a definate vote for the shelter girls. We always check for rescues 1st when we want to adopt rats or anyone else. Both breeder & shelter rats are usually much better socialized & healthier than anyone you'd meet in a pet shop, but with rescue rats you're not only giving them a good home but making room for more homeless rats @ the shelter.
Of course, if you have the time & space to adopt all 5, go for it.
