How much does a Bernese Mountain Dog cost in Australia?? ?
Hi I live in QLD Australia and I really like Bernese mountains dogs and would love to get one!! I've emailed a breeder but she wouldn't give me a price, said I'd have to meet her first (though she lived 2 hours away and I'm not going all that way just to hear a price) I was just wondering roughly how much they cost. Thanks 
Many breeders will give you a "rough" range of cost only...a truly caring, responsible breeder will not sell her pups to just anyone with the price. They want you to meet the pups, their parents and see the facility where they were born and raised. And they want to meet you and see if you meet their standards. Very often people will be questioning the breeders and don't think of the breeders as being selective of their prospective clients. The breeders who are in it for the love of the breed will question you stringently about whether or not you are a suitable owner and if you will be caring for your dog in the manner they approve! With a truly excellent breeder the questions go both ways.
That said, the cost where I am in New York, USA is anywhere from 1200.00 to 2500.00 for a pet quality dog. The 2500.00 figure is for a dog from a reputable breeder who will have bred for both temperament and health, will come with a health guarantee, microchipped and vetted. The breeder will want you to not only meet the pup but spend some time with her so that the breeder can be sure this is a good fit for both dog and you.
The pup is going to be your life for the next 10 years...it may be worth it to drive the 2 hours to see if this is the one for you.
They are great dogs...good luck with whatever you decide.
