best puppy playmate?
my airedale terrier is 5 yrs old and we're looking to get her a friend. we cant seem to find her a puppy pal. the only problem is that we havent exactly "puppy trained" her. (meaning she doesnt really behave around other dogs.) we want an english bulldog. any local breeders in AZ or any better ideas as to what would be a good choice?
she's very rambuncious and a puppy would be perfect for her. but she can be somewhat dominant. but thats only because we just lost our other dog about 6 months ago so she feels its her duty. we want an english bulldog. to small? to slow? we're also considering going back to the same breeder that we got her from. idk.
Does your airdale want a second dog in his pack? You may desire a puppy but chances what your dog really desires is more tiem with you.
As for "puppy training" I think you mean socializing.
Regrettably it is not possible to test your terrier's possible aggressiveness with a puppy without possibly dire consequences to the puppy. A good i ndication of how they might react is how quickly they chew and shake a toy and how long before it is torn open to find the squeaker.
Terriers, including the airedale variety, were bred to have the instinct to grab and shake small animals (like rats, moles, and badgers) -- and may react in ths same way to any small furry animal including the new puppy.
Another terrier breed may be the answer including the westie and cairn terriers which are smaller terriers. You may also want to look at some of the more tenacious breeds such as the boston terrier and larger, the boxer (which actually has terrier way back in it's breeding lineage).
For local breeders I always suggest looking on INFODOG.COM which lists all the dog shows by state and date. Find the closest show to your home and visit it (without your dog so you cancentrate on the show). Stop by and speak with the folks who own and handle the dogs you are interested in -- They may be busy before the show so be flexible about seeing them after they are done in the show ring.
Handlers and Breeders at these shows are a font of information about their breed, local breeders, what to look for in a dog and of course upcoming available puppies around the state and the country.
NEVER purchase from a pet shop or dog shop. Avoid purchasing a dog from someone who "just wanted to make puppies". Both of these tend to breed poorly socialized and ill animals.
Finally -- a more adult companion from the local humane society or pet rescue group (PETFINDER.COM) may also be the answer.

What is the best dog food for dogs face smashed?
I have a 5 month English bulldog and a terrier 7 months old Boston. I was wondering what would be a good food to eat. i currently feed them Eukanuba all natural, but I'm looking for the update. both breeders recommend different foods for each dog, so I'm a bit lost. I would like to know from experience Real people. I've heard good things and bad about a raw diet. Do you know of a website that may have more information? thanks for taking the time their day to help me.
