Can a 7 yrs old border collie live a with a 1 yrs old golden retriever?
The vet is asking me to rescue a 7 yrs old border collie (he is living in a cage for the last 6 month at the vet office) because the owner have left him behind. As he have been in the cage for quite sometime, will I have a problem taking care of him? My golden retriever just had her hip operation 3 months ago. Need all the help possible. Will appreciate some good info, to help them.
Get to know the collie first, and let your pup get to know him. Males can be very affectioate and he really needs a better life. Your pup should actually like the companion, and if they get along well, you may be able to leave them together when you have to leave and feel confident that they have the companionship they crave. Keep in mind that dogs are pack animals and they do best when they have a canine companion. With your pup's operation and collie's age, they may prove to be a good match, but definately have them meet on neutral ground first to make sure they will get along. In the meanwhile, if you are too worried and don't want to chance it, talk the dog up with other people you know. Maybe you can save the collie by finding him a home in your neighborhood.

How much dog food should a Border Collie eat?
My Border Collie is 11 months old and a little small for her size to be abused by the person who was rescued. Does not eat much at all. I give a cup of High quality dry food (Purina Pro Plan Selects Puppy) with a teaspoon of wet food (Newman's Own Organic dog food) every night and usually only eat a small portion of it. She weighs 30 pounds. What would you be eating?
First, never go by the guidelines on a bag of dog food. These are to sell dog food. Most of them are well above what a dog should eat to a healthy weight. I had vests for 21 years. I leave food for human consumption directly puppy about 16 weeks old to keep the puppy growth rate slow and steady. You may want to consider their environment adult / medium puppy dry. I feed twice daily, once in the morning and evening. She may not be able to eat what you are giving your while. It's better for them to eat more than just once a day. Two of my men and my wife adult adult (18 "tall, 30 kg.) Eating 2 / 3 cup to a T. canned 2x a day. My male adult eats a cup in the morning and 1 / 2 cup of the PM with canned. All of them are very active and maintaining a healthy weight with ease. I feed dry kibble varieties Prairie Nature, Merrick and Eagle canned. Hope this helps!
