Border Terrier Breeders Q&A
Why is it that some breeders believe that plenty of people haven't heard of their breed?
i.e. -- Facts [user on here], seems to believe that no one has heard of his breed - the Norwich Terrier, as well as Border Terriers.
I was talking to a German Pinscher breeder out in Oregon -- and they were talking about how they were disappointed that no one had ever heard of their breed.
Just the same happened with a Spinone Italiano breeder in Michigan, and a Kishu Ken breeder in NJ.
Considering that most of the people they were talking about also didn't know the difference between purebred and mutt --
Why do they all seem to believe no one's heard of their breed?
Does it make them feel special? Or is it just an anger thing that their breed isn't on the top 5 list?
Explanations are fantastic.
Cheers.
They are great dog breeds, and some parts of the US have not heard of the breeds.....people that are not into dogs much, have not heard of half of the breeds available....and thats why when they go to get a dog, they dont what to get, they never heard of most of the breeds.
the breeders need to get the word out more...and in parts up North, Montana, Oregon, Wyoming, the more showing breeds have not been heard of,. they use working dogs up there and dont even bother to see all the other breeds, like a cattleman I met up in Montana last year, he has Blue Heelers and never heard of or seen a pic of a Poodle, he said what is that and I told him...he just laughed and said well around here, if it dont herd, we never heard of it..LOL yes he did, I thought he was so funny...
but parts of the country only bother to learn about the breeds that are used for their use and nothing else, and thats a shame

Border Terrier Breeders Q&A
If the border terrier dog right for me?
I will be getting an adult dog, and I love border terriers. Boder is not a terrier rescue group that has borders for approval. I have a cat though. Is it true that all terriers hate cats? I really want a border. I can not walk in the morning, but going to the park and long walks in the afternoon and evening after school. In the morning you can go in the garden around 7:00 to 1:00 (dog door). It will be home alone from 1:00 pm until 4:30 pm. Then receive a long walk to the park. That is why I am getting an adult. Is this a good choice of dog for me? What other breeds I should consider? Should be small and easy to prepare. I can not take to the breeder. I like the borders, as it can go for ages, and in summer I like long walks by the river, and in the forest. I will take the dog in the summer camping
I can not vouch for Border Terriers in particular, but in general, terriers do not "hate" cats, however, the need chase anything that moves has been wired in the terrier through hundreds of generations of reproduction - this can be a problem. I've had terriers and cats living together through my years but it is much easier if the terriers have had cats around him throughout his life. Ask the rescue group. Usually, they know something history of these dogs, and foster families to take care of them know more. Be upfront, tell the group about their situation and work with you to find the right dog. Please consider a walk in the morning, or at least a good, hard play session before going to work or school. A tired dog is less likely to chase out of boredom. Thank you for considering a rescue dog!
