Boston Terrier Breeders?
After researching we have decided that the Boston Terrier is the dog for us. Now my question is how do you choose what breeder you want. I have looked online but what type of questions should I be asking and looking for. I know these dogs have some heath issues that need to be checked at birth. I want to make sure the parents are in excelent health themselves. Also what prices should I expect. We aren't looking to show just a great family addition. If you are a breeder please fill me in. we live in washington.
I know i can go to both of those places but how do I know what to look for when choosing a breeder.
Above all, make sure that the breeder tests his stock for genetic defects. This is not the same as a vet check. The most popular tests are OFA for knees and hips, CERF for eyes and BAER for deafness. These tests can help prevent defects such as Luxating patellas, Hip Dysplasia, Juvenile Cataracts and deafness (some of the most common problems in the breed) from being passed down to future generations.

I'm not sure about prices in the WA area, but in the Northeast you can expect to pay $1,000 - $1,500 for a well bred, health tested, pet quality pup.
Keep in mind that any breeder that advertises pups in the newspaper or online is not a reputable breeder. A reputable breeder will not let you go home with one of their pups until you've been screened for your suitability as an owner. You will likely have to get on a waiting list and/or reserve a puppy before it's even born. Remember though, that good things come to those who wait.
