boxer Puppy Training Q&A

Hard time training Boxer puppy

I have a boxer puppy (his name is Odie, he is almost 11 weeks old now) We got him when he was 7 weeks old. I am having two issues with him, he isnt picking up the whole "not pottying in your kennel" deal and he really likes to play bite or "nibble" at your hands and its kinda difficult to stop him. I have a maltese that is 2 years old and she picked up on everything very quickly and NEVER had an accident in her kennel. I take his water away at 8pm and take him out 2 or 3 times before bed at 11 and everytime when I get him in the morning (around 6:30am) his has pee'd and sometimes pooped in his kennel (which btw isnt too big or too small he has just enough room). and the 2nd part when I try to tell him "no nite" he whines and barks at me and runs away OR he will whine and do it more bc he thinks im playing with him.. other then these two things he is amazing- im just getting frustrated...any advice?!?!
oops i meant "no Bite" not nite lol

Couple of things to take into consideration, your talking a bout a puppy so he's going to want to gnaw on whatever is in front of him if it happens to be your hand then you have to let him know that is un-acceptable. Give an "ouch" sound when he starts gnawing on you, just loud enough to startle him, then hand him a chew toy say "good boy" once he starts in on that. As for his potty training, a lot of people have said "dogs don't "go" where they sleep or eat. That's not true, puppy is goung to "go" no matter what. Crate training does work if done correctly, a few things to consider is a puppy must go oput within a reasonable time after eating, if you take him out at 6:30AM and then leave him food to eat till you get back home, you should expect a mess. Try waking up 45 minutes earlier and devote that time to Odie (cute name) take him out for a quick tinkel right when you get up, bring him in feed him his puppy chow and then take him out for a good 20 minutes of exercise after eating (of course you know to praise him when he does his duty) A puppy needs a lot of your time in order to be trained properly, this is why you see so many "older pups" in the humane society, the task of training the pup becomes a daunting task for some and they give up. When you leave for the day I wouldn't leave food behind just water and if you can get back home during lunch that would be great, if not expect some urine in the cage. Another thing you need to remember when getting home, ignore that cute little face (including your Maltese). You don't want to rile them up right when you get home, your teaching them respect by ignoring them. I say hi to my two dogs a good 10-15 minutes after I get home. They never go bonkers, unfortunately I can't get my gal to do the same thing and they go crazy when she gets home. If I'm home I can get them settled quickly but if she's by herself it takes awhile.

Anyway, feel free to drop me a line if I did or can help you with anything else.

boxer Puppy Training Q&A

How puppy .. boxer potty training?

K so I'm asking all of you who have used puppy potty pads. I've raised some puppy-dog potty training bell went smoothly, but that was because someone was at home 24 / 7 to constantly out and so on. However, I work more now and get a puppy here soon. I'm Feeling to use puppy pads for a while, my question is how easy it is to go on puppy pads out of use of the potty? My theory for potty training was against pads at first because he believed that the use of potty inside was against the rules period. Now are forced to use me and I am a bit worried she does not learn to use the potty out before the pads .. Any advice? My plan for when I have to leave it to establish his kennel with bedding, and have a open play area attached to the kennel pads covered with urination. Go slowly to the door pads and in that time either outside or ..... IDK. She is locked in the kitchen door back ..

well if you mean by that is not going to puppy pads, go with the grass mats with little flowers on them! my dog when he was a puppy had a laundry room and left the door open then it opened to the garage, which left open so you can walk and have more space. we one of those carpets of grass next to the door, she had used the dog mat and grass next best thing that I guess!
