Bull Dog Breeders In Wisconsin Q&A

how does a 10 week old puppy take a LONG car ride (x2)?

I know i already asked a similar question, but only got one answer (which wasn't bad) but i'd like a few more opinions...

I've had a deposit down on a miniature bull terrier from a breeder for 2 years now, and have 1st pick of male puppies in her upcoming litter in may, however my fiance and I recently found out we're going to be moving to tx early august, so about the time the puppies are ready. the breeder is in ohio and i'm in wisconsin. so, how well will a puppy take not 1, but 2 long car rides a week apart? the ride from oh to wi is 7 hours and a week later will be on his ride from wi to tx which is 17 hours. picking him up on the way isn't an option because oh is so far out of the way and uhauls are sooo expensive to rent.

so, will he be ok, or should we just wait until the next litter and get a pup then? my fiance says its my decision since i've had money on this dog since before we met, and i don't know what to do! please help!!! lol

thanks!

I have had my puppy 9wks old on an 8 hr road trip and was just fine. You could go to the vet and ask for a sedative for the road trip....he might have some better ways of accommodating for the little guy. I think you should try the sedative for the 17 hr road trip. Don't wait for a new litter if you have found a perfect fit now. You might not find another one like him. Just make sure you have a kennel with plenty of water and food for his own space, when needed, also be prepared to keep taking potty breaks. I would also recommend some Nutri-Cal so that if he does not like to eat in the car he will still have the protein and nutrients to not get sick. Give this to him about 2 days prior to the trip about 3x a day and continue this until he has become accustomed to his new house in TX. Also find a vet beforehand in TX so that the puppy can be checked out to ensure he isn't depressed or overwhelmed from the two moves. The first trip shouldn't be an issue though...and you can make sure the breeder begins him on Nutri-Cal before you pick him up. Hope this helps.
