Puppy Farms In The UK?
I have just seen on the lunchtime news and received an email from the RSPCA about Puppy Farms in Ireland shipping poor puppies to the UK. I am so shocked, I knew puppy mills existed in America an that you could buy puppies in pet shops there but I had absolutely no idea it was going on here on our doorstep. I think common sense should tell you not to buy a puppy from the internet and have it shipped. But the thing I don't get is why people fall for it? I do not understand why alarm bells don't immediately start ringing? Has anyone had any experience with puppy farms (UK ONLY)? Have they ever bought a puppy without reallising it was from a farm? Can anyone shed some light on the situation? Thanks x x
im embarassed to admit it but unwittingly i bought a cavalier king charles puppy,i didnt realise till later it was a puppy farm.id tried all local breeders in the essex area and there wasnt any pups available(i would of much preferred to buy from a private breeder),i then see an advert for a kennels in wickford that had cavalier pups.i spoke to the owner who told me her grand-daughters dog was the mum and so the litter had been raised at home and only bought to the kennels to sell.the puppies were bought in to the reception area,we wasnt allowed to go in to the kennels to see the other pups as we were told it could cause infection.to cut a long story short,i bought the pup,shed had her 1st jab and the woman wormed her with a liquid before we left.later that day i noticed the puppy coughing and being sick.the next day i took her to the vet and was told she had inhalation pneamonia caused by the force of which the wormer had been given,it had gone straight to her lungs rather than her stomach.i was asked by the vet where i had bought her,when i told her she took me out to the reception area and showed me a poster.the place i had bought my puppy from was a puppy farm and all the puppies were sick,they had been closed down several times and reopened under another name.it was explained to me that they buy the puppies fron ireland when they are only a couple of weeks old because they are very cheap and then sell them on.i felt like such a fool and reported them to the rspca.puppy was fine,thank god.it frustrates me say they are still selling puppies and advertise in local papers and on the internet.afterall these people are con-artists and lie for a living which is why they are so convincing and people end up believeing them.
