When buying a cross breed....(German Shep & Staff Bull)?
....is it pretty much a gamble on what the temperament will be like? When buying a pure breed, obviously you can semi rely on breed traits shining through - but if you buy a cross breed, how do you know which mix you're going to get, i.e good or bad!?
I've owned German Shepherd's before, and love the breed so much. I am looking at getting another dog soon, but am now thinking about a cross breed, just because I feel I don't want to feel like I'm replacing our last dog. So, I've just heard about German Shepherd X Staffordshire Bull Terrier - anyone willing to take a guess what they are likely to be like temperament wise?! Is it a good mix?! To look at them they are like small GSD's, but with the black and white colouring of a SBT.
The temperment of a cross breed is determined the same way as the temperment of a purebred. It all depends on genetics - the parents of the cross and their parents - You really can't make a statement like "All Jack Russells are good with kids" or "Every Golden Retriever acts like the perfect family member".
Doesn't work that way, it's all dependent upon their genes.

Need help with my puppy?
Hi, My father just purchased a white German Shepherd puppy ... She is the cutest little thing but it is a machine a few problems. Is about 8 weeks and all he does is eat, sleep and play a lot ... I love her, but I have a dog of my own. She is a dog (poodle). They do not get along at all. The puppy wants play and my dog does not. Because the puppy likes to destroy everything in its path. I really dont know what to do because my dog was not. I am also the only German Shepherd puppy care ... my dad works for you can not take care of it but it is when not working and my brothers are just lazy, sometimes ... I know it's just a puppy and is normal for a puppy to be a bit destructive ... I just need help on how to Chakira (Daddy my German Shepherd puppy) to stop being sooo destructive ... or I do not have any advice?? oh and when I can start training with her? sorry if this is because long in advance:)
All puppies Like biting, of course, and worse when teething. The longer you have to with any attention or anyone to play, the more destructive it will be, and gets worse as they begin teething around 4 months ago. The solution is to give lots of good toys puppy dog, Chewie, bones, etc. .. and try keep them occupied. If left alone, the area that should be left in the "puppy-proof." Puppies are like children, you need to look around through their eyes and remove anything hazardous or do not want chewed. The biggest problem here is not chewing, is the fact that he is taking care Dog his father had bought, not him. All dogs, especially puppies, let alone a working dog / grazing as a contact GSD needs and human interaction. They need to work and learn and crave attention. Sounds like dad really was not about to get a puppy and is not prepared to adequately care for one and give time and attention they need. They need more than food and water and someone to clean up your mess ... they need to play ball and find the clubs and hit the road .... a tired puppy is usually a sleeping puppy! You need to have your dad really thinks about what the puppy needs and adjust your day to give more attention. In terms of training, they start learning from the moment you can see and hear, so yes, you can start now. I recommend your firm in a class of puppy kindergarten or a type of obedience of some kind before, usually after it has had at least three shots, or about 3 months old or younger, but do not wait until then to start training. You can teach him to sit and stay and most importantly to come now.
