The purpose of this investigation was to determine the effect that a large body of water and latitude has on climate. Using a detailed map of Canada and the weather stations on the “Canadian Climate Normals or Averages 1971-2000” website, I chose three cities in Canada with similar latitudes, with one city by the ocean, and two inland. Analyzing the information for the three different cities (Estevan, Tofino, and Prince Albert), I concluded that latitude does greatly affect climate, proven by the colder temperatures of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, which is the farthest north. I also concluded that distance from a large body of water also affects climate, mainly causing a moderate and rainy climate. This was proven through comparing the climate of a city by the ocean (Tofino, British Columbia), to two cities located inland.
