Cattle Dog Breeders Q&A

What should I do with a dog in heat?

I have one month to 8 years in Australia cattle dog. The breeder told us to wait until it is about 10 months to a year before getting her spayed ... ACD apparently are slow to mature. Unfortunately, my dog went into heat last week. Now, is there anything I should know about this? (Besides the obvious - keeping its distance from the boys). Do I have to wait for the cycle to complete before getting her spayed? I know I could easily call the breeder / veterinarian, but this seems a very good forum, so thought I'd see what answers come first. Please do not respond if you know nothing about it. Also, do not give me any lectures on unwanted puppies, etc - I think that breeding be left to the professionals! :)

Veterans do not like sterilization, while she is in heat, due to increased activity of the blood vessel. This can cause a lot of bleeding during surgery, making it a little more dangerous. Usually like to wait at least 3-4 weeks after the heat cycle is complete. But if you are persistent, and willing to accept slightly more risk, they will. While she is in heat, they are the best out of the locked away from men for a total of 4 weeks. Usually, in the heat of only 3 weeks, but some remain a little. Do not be fooled into a false sense of security if you stop bleeding after 10 days ... who is your most fertile time, and she begins to bleed again in 3-7 days. During your most fertile time, even the left in a fenced yard, without seeing it. A loving dog miraculous feats can try to find a partner, even jumping a fence! I had my 14 "tall girl jump my 6 1 / 2 foot fence a few months ago. Fortunately I was there and was able to grab it. Good luck and congratulations for being responsible for sterilization it!
