How do I keep a stud from thinking about a female dog obsessivly?
I have a male Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, he has been bred twice before to one of our brood females. And we have kept a puppy from previous litters, she is now ten months old, but has just started her heat, and boy he knows it. Neutering isn't an option unfortunatly at the moment, he is a show dog. And I want anti pregnancy hormores for the bitch to be a last resort. When ever I seperate them, he goes crazy literally, his pupils get large, he gets fidgety, he yelps and screams. I have never encountered this before. Treats dont work, Ive tried giving him a bath so he thinks about that and not her, no avail.
Please I need suggestions, having him in a different room will drive him insane, he was barking non-stop all night, we had to put him in the room with the bitch, she was crated, then he was pawing at the crate all night.
Unfortunately, that is a condition of having intact males and females in the same house. You just have to learn to live with it.
Many breeders work together, one houses the males, the other the females. Some board the males out when the girls are in heat.
A good rule of thumb is to keep at least two doors between the male and female. I've seen a 12lb dog tear down a door to get to the female, and I have a friend whose male bred her female through the locked crate.
When I have females in heat (I just had a stretch where I had 5 girls come in season one after the other - UGH) I just let the boys out together and the girls out together. I don't even let the girls out who AREN'T in season out with the boys if one is in, as the boys will drive the non-hormonal girl insane 
Plus I buy ear plugs in bulk. It's the only way I'll get any sleep/
