New rescue Doberman following me around. Is this normal?
I got a rescue Doberman a week ago. He keeps following me around everywhere and when he's playing with his toys he likes to play with them on my knee or as close to me as he can get. Is this ok?
He has a good run in the garden twice a day and I take him for a walk each day. I play with him with his toys quite alot at different point throughout the day and even if im not playing with him he's always near me.
I can't even go to the bathroom without him following me, lol. I don't mind it, im just wondering if it's normal for a dog to do this?
I tell him to sit and wait at the doorway, which he does but if I move out of sight then he comes looking for me.
He has plenty of food a day, water is always left down for him and he get's alot of excersise
It sounds like your new rescue is fitting in very well. Yes, this is very common of a Doberman, although, sometimes can by very annoying. You're doing great by starting to teach him the sit and wait/stay command. They don't call a Doberman a *velcro* dog for nothing. I'm sure after a little more time, he won't feel the need to be able to see you 24/7.....just needs to get *comfortable* with you and his new surroundings for a while. If you think the *toys on the knee* is bad, just wait. He will nudge your hand/arm until it falls off, just waiting for attention and to be pet/scratched.
