Dog breeds that are not recognized by AKC?
I have heard of some breeds (not mutts and mixes) that are not accounted for by the AKC, I have forgotten their names, but there will be more anyway?
What are some dog breeds that are not recognized by AKC, dogs that can not be found on the site or records?
These dogs, why are they not acknowledged?
And how do you get one of these breeds from a responsible breeder, how will that breeder be registered?
(Do not want a dog, do not want to breed)

AKC requires a certain geographic saturation of a breed in order for it to be recognized so while the breed might be recognized by the FCI or another reputable registry, the AKC does not recognize it because there aren't enough in the US. For example, my breed, the DDB just became recognized two years ago. Prior to that, our dogs were registered either FCI (foreign imports) or UKC (canadian or american bred dogs).

My friend and I was looking into getting a pug dog. so I'm asking the search witch is better to get one of these small type?
Well, it depends! There is nothing wrong with either option. 
However, my vote would go to buying from a breeder who shows their dogs and testing for health problems genetics. Pugs are full of genetic health problems are prone to luxating patella, skin diseases, respiratory problems and even a state of fear in their eyes can fall right out of their sockets. Go to a breeder that tests for these conditions will ensure a much more healthy for a puppy of unknown history of a ransom.
