Dog Breeders Albuquerque Q&A
Is there anyway to get more cities to implement this law?
For once, my city is actually ahead on something!
In the city of Albuquerque NM it is illegal for pet stores to sell cats or dogs. All cats or dogs in the city must be gotten through breeders or adoption programs that usually have weekly adoption fairs in the pet stores. I think it is a great program and I think that if more cities implemented it, the demand for puppy mill puppies would go down and adoptions would go up.
What can I do to try and get other cities interested in this law!?
If we could get it country wide, then it wouldn't matter how far they drove.
Also, private breeding is still totally legal here
Thanks for the ideas!
I'll get letter writing and hope some of you do too!
People are lazy. They do what is easiest. Buying from a pet store= easy, common sense.
Going to the pet store for a dog and ending up with one that happens to be a rescue dog = easy.
I know it wont solve the issue, but I will argue that it HELPS the issue.
Good for your city! My town is kind of getting there. The Petco here takes cats in from the pound and sells them for them and they also have adoption days every Saturday. Also, another local pet store stopped selling puppy mill puppies and started taking in pups/dogs from the shelter instead.
Sadly, there is still one small business pet store here that sells puppy mill puppies... And they go like crazy because people in this small town are so ignorant and naive about everything..
