I'm am a little skeptical about the American canine association!?
i recenty received a pug from a local breeder in my area as a present from my wife, and he pug is registered with the ACA. i have never heard of this before and i am a skeptic of its legitimacy. i went to the website and its poorly put together. i cant get to any links except the ones that are forms to give them money. my wife spent quite a bit of money on our dog, and as a previous pug owner i feel as if the dog is inadequate to a pugs features. my question here is, what is the ACA all about and can i get my dog registered in the AKC?
I am sorry, but you won't be able to register with AKC. ACA is a puppy mill's registration, and for breeders who can't get AKC registration.
There are a few reasons for a dog being denied AKC registration, even if they are, or appear to be purebred.
The most common these days, is that the breeder bought the breeding stock with 'limited' registration, meaning that the AKC breeder sold them with papers that stipulated that they were not of breeding quality, and their pups can't be registered.
Another, is that the breeding dog's parentage is unknown..such as unregistered pups bought from a newspaper ad.
Another reason, is a breeder that uses dogs that are not truly purebred. I had a relative that did that. she would have a Pom that may have been part Chihuahua, and would sell the offspring as pure Pomeranian...touting the puppies as extra tiny..and registered with the ConKC (another puppy mill registry)
The last common reason, being that the kennel produces more than 3 litters per year, and would not pass an AKC inspection. (that happened to that same relative
