A Chihuahua question.?
Ok. I live in Dayton Ohio and I need to find a good breeder thats in a close distance due to my mom is already against me getting a dog. Where is a place i can find breeders and also how much should I pay for a Chihuahua?
And please dont try to change my mind about getting a Chi. My mind is made up.
I think you should find a Chihuahua rescue group in your state via Google. Don't buy from a breeder because too many Chihuahua "breeders" are scammers. THERE IS ONLY ONE TYPE OF CHIHUAHUA. ONLY ONE STANDARD FOR THE CHIHUAHUA. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS "TEACUP", "TOY", "MINI" OR "BABY" CHIHUAHUA! They are SMALL RUNTS. Small, UN-HEALTHY runts! So, do NOT get fooled by the people who sell those runts.
As long as you know about the Chihuahua health and temperament, I won't try change your mind. Research the breed carefully. They don't need to be carried in bags or dressed up. They are snappy, aggressive and yappy when they aren't socialized. They are TERRIBLE dogs for children. They have a lot of health problems and need a CONFIDENT (not motherly/fatherly) owner.
If you don't want to rescue a Chihuahua (which will only cost around $50-$150, depending on age/gender), you can go to the Chihuahua club of America to find reputable, ethical and responsible breeders. Do not buy Chihuahua's from ads in the paper or online. Make sure your Chihuahua is AKC registered, not APR, CKC etc. because they are CRAPPY registries that are used by backyard breeders, pet shops and puppy mills.
A Chihuahua from a good breeder (AKC registered) will cost anywhere from $650 to $950. A Chihuahua from a bad breeder (either not registered, selling smaller than the standard Chihuahua's or using a crap registry) will only cost around $200-$400. Obviously that's because they are selling un-healthy dogs. You need to make sure to get one from a reputable breeder that screens their dogs of hereditary diseases and either shows her dogs or makes sure that their dogs have champion pedigrees (bloodlines).
