Dog Breeders In Minnesota Q&A

I want to breed my Shih Tzu! Where?

I have a Shih Tzu named Lilly, shes probably about 4 years old now, and shes just getting over her 3ed false pregnancy. My brother said that we should just breed her. I looked up some Breeders in Minnesota and i couldn't find anything. Lillys a pure breed, so we want to breed her with a pure breed Shih Tzu. I dont know anyone with the same type of dog as i have, so its not like i can breed her with someone i know. I want like a licensed breeding place. I dont want her to get hurt or anything, she means the world to me.

This is something i really want to do. I understand that this is hard work and it will take about 9 weeks and Lillys attitude might change but im okay with it. I just dont want to see her pretending that the television remote controls her baby in my parents closet anymore. aha. (: Any ideas on what i can do? Websites or anything?

Please help, LILLY NEEDS YOU!

Well there are a couple of things you could do here. You could breed her, which could potentially worsen the problem, or you could have her spayed. My advice to you would be to speak with her vet about what the best option for her would be.

When considering breeding, its always best to consider the already skyrocketting pet population. Millions of animals in shelters need homes that could be taken up by the dogs you breed. It can also be difficult to find puppies good homes. Puppies you sell could, despite your best efforts, end up in abusive homes or abandoned by irresponsible owners. There are, however, ways of preventing that, particularly when working with an experienced breeder.

Below I have provided a link to the national Shih Tzu Club of America that has chapters in each state. Through this you should be able to find very reputable breeders that provide stud services and can assist with breeding. They can also asses whether your dog, regardless of how much you love her, is of good breeding stock. If she is not, then you may have to reconsider spaying as a good option.

I wish you the best of luck with your pup. I hope whatever you decide to do helps with her obsessive mothering behaviors.
