Dog Breeders Missouri Q&A
Has anyone ever adopted pit bull puppies seized in a dogfighting raid?
I believe it is how you bring a dog up that determines its behavior - but I wondered about the puppies that were seized. Will they have a natural tendency to attack other dogs based on bloodlines - or is this something that has to be brought out and taught? Just wondered, because my first Coonhound had parents that were Grand Nite Champion Coonhounds - even though I don't hunt - I have friends that do and I took her on a training run and she did real good - she even treed the coon first. Just wondered if it was natural for pit bulls(from fighting bloodlines) to be dog aggressive or not and if so can it be trained out of them.
I've had friends with Pit Bulls they bought from reputable breeders and they are the sweetest - good with other dogs, and with cats too. I know pits aren't naturally human aggressive - just wondering because there were 50 puppies seized in the raid in the Illinois/Missouri area.
No, but i think i can answer your question. Most dogs learn their behavior. So if these are puppies, they were probably not in training to fight yet. They should make wonderful pets with a responsible owner.
Hope this helps, you should adopt one. Coonhounds instinctively are hunting dogs. Pitbulls don't instinctively want to kill eachother-it's a trait taught by cruel humans.
By the way...black and tan coonhounds are my favorite dogs ever!
