Where should I adopt a rat?
I live in a very small town. The only pet stores around are one Petland and one Petsmart. I've owned several rats and the sweetest rat I've ever owned was a feeder rat named Monty from Petland. I doubt my little baby had ever seen a vet, or been properly handled before I bought him for $3.00 at Petland. He was skiddish at first but after a while my little boy became my best friend. Unfortunately one day he got loose due to a cheap cage, and my roommate's dog got a hold of him. I felt like such a bad pet owner to have bought such a cheap cage to house my baby in. Luckily my roommate got rid of his dog and now I think I'm ready to get a new little buddy, but this time a little girl. I even bought a new cage for her, (hopefully she can't get out of this one) So finally my question is, are there any good rat breeders or rescues around Pensacola, FL? What are the cons of buying a rat from a pet store? If there are no rescues or breeders, what are my options? Can some one please help?
All my rats were feeder rats just look for a young one that is not aggressive to your hand. It would be best to get two they will not try as hard to escape if they have a friend

I my baby "had seen a vet, or have been tampered with before they bought it for $ 3.00 at Petland. Skiddish was at first, but after a time my young son became my best friend. Unfortunately one day he dropped due to a cheap cage and the dog of my roommate got a hold of him. I felt like a bad pet owner had bought a cheap box to the house of my baby in Fortunately my roommate got rid of her dog and now I think I'm ready for a new friend, but this time a girl. I even bought a new cage for her (hopefully not out of it) So finally my question please help?
