Interested in a poodle mix, but do not want to buy them from a "designer breeder"
First off- some people on here like to make it seem that shelters are over flowing with designer dogs.Here in Canada that is not the case. You may even have to put your name on a waiting list until one comes in. I am in BC but your local phone book should have the number for a shelter/spca or pound nearby. If you really want to save a dog go to the pound.Most are put down at the pound within a few days to a week where many shelters and spcas have a no kill policy for dogs.Large to medium sized dogs have always dominated the shelters and still do. Mainly shepherd/shepherd mix/pitbulls and labs etc. Adopting from a shelter is a good idea but keep in mind that just because someone breeds purebreds it does not instantly mean they are a good breeder. There are many BYB's of labs etc because they are cheap to purchase and easy to find/easy to breed and have lots of puppies. While there are many people breeding hybrids for a quick buck I have come across a few that love thier dogs dearly and take great care of them. It really depends on the breeder- not what they are breeding.

I'm from Ontario and I can not believe that we as a people, who are supposed to protect these innocent creatures, you can allow this barbaric operation continue to victimize the animals and people under the protection of the law! I signed the petition, but the year has to be updated on it. Still says the year is 2002. You do not want to give these bottomfeeders any kind of loophole or excuse to dismiss such a request credible. What kind of breeder does not make test for genetic defects?! That alone should be enough to close in my books! I wish you all the luck in the world with your request and I hope someday someone will have the sense to close that horrible puppymill make money down! Good luck and keep us updated!
