Does your cavalier king charles spaniel hide?
I want to know if this is a breed thing or just my dog.
I dont beat my dog, in fact we have never hit him in our life.
We did buy him from a well known breeder in St. Louis, and he was put on a plane and shipped to Tampa, FL. For the first 3 months of his life he was scared of anything that sounded like an airplane, but then that wore off.
Now he hides under the couch or if we block that off he hides somewhere else. I dont get it he has a great life, why does he hide?
Why do you think he hides?

He is 2 1/2 years old now.
The Cavalier Breed is generally not like that. They are very bonded to people and tend to follow you everywhere. I have 6 Cavaliers and 3 of them i got when they were older. Each one came from different families. Since the day they arrived they acted as if they always lived here and never hid away from the family. To this day none of my dogs hide away in another room. They are always happy laying all over the furniture with the rest of the family. And all have there favorite designated spots where they like to lay.
I think the reason your dog acts that way is because he wasn't properly socialized at the most vital time of his life between 8 to 16 weeks of age. He probably wasn't exposed to all the loud noises in every day life and was too sheltered. And the fact he was taken from his secure home from the breeder, then shipped on a plane in cargo by himself has got to be the most terrifying thing a puppy can ever encounter. That alone could have traumatized him for life and he hasn't been able to trust people. So under the bed and couch is a secure place for him where he feels safe that no one will rip him from his home and send him on a plane again.
