I need to see if our new dog is a Polish Lowland Sheepdog !?
We had a dog for 15 years that we discovered, after 5 years, was a rare breed that required different training, handling and medical care from the average. By sheer luck, we did pretty well by her, but her love for jumping up onto and down from things, while still quite young may well have hastened the onset of back problems that crippled her during her last 3 years and may have shortened her life.
We recently found another dog at another shelter that looks like and fits the description of a Polish Lowland Sheepdog or P O N. There are about 2000 known in N America, but one was found along the road in Texas, so it is possible. We are in Northern New York State on the Canadian Boarder. The nearest breeder refused to help. We are looking for a breeder or Dog Show judge, etc to help identify our dog so we can do the best for him! We don't expect it for zero $$$$.
sorry, but even the best breeder or judge in the world cant tell you if you have a certain breed of dog or not.... only that it looks exactly like one... unless you can trace its family tree which is what organisations like the AKC are for.
it could be a first generation mutt... or several generations down the line... it could even be an old english sheepdog cross.
so dont pay a heap of money to someone who cant tell you for sure anyway... that would be pretty pointless - particularly when you cant breed it and sell the pups as a recognised PLS dog anyway.
