question about grooming my new puppy?
i just got a toy australian shepherd and i have some questions about grooming him. i give him a bath every week because i am allergic to dogs using a allergen reducing shampoo and silk conditioner. i also brush him outside everyday to minimize shedding. i brush his teeth everyday. i also apply allerpet on his coat twice a week to remove the dander. i use eye and ear cleaning products on him once a week.OKAY my question is about nail trimming and hair cutting. i will be taking him to the groomer to do these 2 things. i would prefer to get them done at the same time. i want to keep his coat really really short, but not showing skin. HOW OFTEN SHOULD I TAKE HIM TO THE GROOMER'S TO GET HIS HAIR AND NAILS CUT??
They will do both things as that is part of grooming. Normally a full clip/bath includes clipping nails, cleaning plucking the ears, expressing the glands & bath/dry & brushing & clipping the privates - full clip includes the hair cut. They can trim your dog down to whatever length you want as long as dog is fully brushed out & not matted. How often depends on how fast you dog's hair grows & length of clip & what you consider it to be grown out. Normal maintenance would be 6-8wk for aussie shepherd in a clip of 1".
I would stop using the conditioner as that will end drying out the coat with constant use & break out the skin & upset the coat ph also. Overbathing will make your dog dander much worse. Brushing is far more important than bathing.
