How to organize a Dog Olympics for charity?
I need to get 20 hours of community service to pass my grade this year and I was thinking of organizing an event. Last year my friend did a walk for animals, but this year I was thinking of doing a Dog Olympics. Such as dogs doing tricks and maybe a dog show. I have lots of questions:
1) Where could it be held at?
2) What could be used as a prize?
3) How could an event like this bring in money?
4) How do you get businesses to help you?
5) How much would something like this cost?

1) Local parks or fair grounds may be willing to host your event. You may even talk to local schools; they usually have a soccer or football field that would be suitable. The ideal location would have a surrounding chainlink fence- just in case someone's dog got loose!
2) Prizes can be anything you think appropriate. 4H groups may have leftover generic ribbons, or you could probably find some cheap dog toys / gifts on ebay. You could also ask for donations of dog supplies from your friends and family that they no longer use. Want to go really cheap? Print out certificates on your computer for each class you hold with a place to fill in the winner's name.
3) You could charge so much per class, or an all day fee. For example, you could say it's $5 to enter your dog in a particular class, or $25 to enter as many as you want of the 20 classes offered.
4) Go talk to people. Talk to anyone and everyone. Networking is what will make an event like this work. You may not get any business support right away- most businesses like to support an established event that has been held for several years, or to a registered organization.
5) Cost is completely dependent on how much you're willing to put into it. Will you be hiring a professional judge, or having your cousin/uncle/brother judge? Bought prizes or donated ones? How many classes are you going to put together? Do you need to rent special equipment, such as an agility course? There are more considerations that I'm sure I'm forgetting, but hopefully this'll get you started.
