Dog Training Blue Heelers Q&A

Any ideas for house-breaking a blue heeler?

I have a 8 month old blue heeler. We kept her inside for the first few months with our other dog, but we cannot get her to house train. We have had to keep her outside because she is ruining the carpet (we have a nice yard, a large doghouse and visit with her daily, she's not mistreated outside). I would really love to have her back inside with us, heelers are known to be hard to train, but I know it can be done. Any suggestions?

I would recommend 2 things 1 when from homw out dog in crate 99% of the time they wont potty in their "house" 2. Before you take him.her out put a bell on your door handle and ring it. the dog then associates that noise with potyy and eventuttly if will learn hey if i wring this bell i get to go outside , I have trained all me 3 "heathens" with the bell and crate method worked/works great for me. good luck

Dog Training Blue Heelers Q&A

Obedience training and what else?

My puppy is enrolled in puppy school at the end of the month. I want the rock in it. :) My dog is a German shepherd / husky / blue heeler dog is 14 weeks and 35 pounds, the vet thinks it will be a very big dog. Anyway, I want to continue with obedience training [we are using because that's PetSmart As several people have recommended to us]. Offer, on top of puppy school: * Preschool Education * Intermediate * Advanced * education-to-Right education click trick - I take all these programs? When asked, I said yes, but I'm not just saying that because they want my money. LoL. In addition, What other things I can register my puppy when he gets bigger? I want him to have a happy life, and my husband and I are very active people outdoors so wish you can go with us and do things. ~ ~

Yes, you should take him through all the courses. The more work you put into it, be the most obedient. Except for Clicker (Click-a trick) training. This is not necessary for your dog to be obedient. It's just a kind of cloth.
