Did I made grammar mistakes in this small text ?

At the end of the 1980s, the Montrealer Dov Charney, a fashion enthusiast and a brilliant but unruly student, decided to import thousands of American T-shirts from the USA. He then sold them in the streets of Montreal.
Once grown-up, in the mid-1990s, he created a design and manufacturing company while watching how operated the biggest fashion compagnies. Dov Charney discovered that most of them had their good manufactured in foreign countries at a lower cost. The employees were very badly paid, suffered from over-work and worked in poor conditions.

I would make the first line into 2 sentences and start with the person, not the date.
Instead of "once grown-up," Try "As an adult in the mid-1990s,"
"while watching how operated the biggest fashion compagnies" should be "while watching how the biggest fashions companies operated" Companies was spelled wrong and there is a word missing to make it complete.
Add an S to good in the second to last sentence.
Instead of were very badly paid, say they were paid very low wages.
