Is getting a ferret from a breeder a pain in the neck?
im planning on getting a ferret in a few years when i can support it and im done with college and all that stuff, but in the mean time, im doing research and looking for a breeder i may like. But it seems like the breeders that have online sites have some kind of catch.. Like you can't descent them (which I've read on a few ferret breeders' sites) and it seems like they always want to be involved with them, like they have to know what's going on with the ferret at all times. Like, I can see letting them know you got them altered, and that they have their shots, but is it as bad as I think? Thanks!
A good breeder will want to interview you before even entertaining the idea of letting you buy one of they ferrets. It's all about making sure that you will properly take care of the animal. It's called responsible. I once sat in a breeders front room for almost an hour being interviewed to see how much I knew about these animals, where I lived, how I was going to take care of it,etc ... before I was even allowed to go and look at what she had available. She was more interested in my knowledge than in my money. Now, that's a good breeder. Anyone ever get asked by the pet shop if you know how to take care of your new pet. ...no, didn't think so.
