Ferret Breeders In Michigan Q&A

ferret help! 10 points for vest answer!?

ok so i got everything for my ferret like the cage and food and toys and such... but what i am missing is the ferret... i was gonna get it from petco in westland michigan but i herd getting it from a breeder is cheaper and it gives you a healthier pet... is this true and where is a ferret breeder in michigan close to detroit.. my city is less thn 5 min away from detroit.. i live in dearborn michigan... any help?

Try googling different breeders in your area, you are sure to find one near-by, but just remember you may need to go on a waiting list before you receive your pet ferret. Ferrets are also best in pairs or groups, otherwise they can become unruly and aggressive. As they are so social (think more of mice/rats/cattle rather than dogs or horses) they need interaction during all times of the day and night, which no human can ever provide for them. Also ferrets cannot be kept in their cages day and night, you will need to allow them to have runs around the house, so just remember to buy some draught stoppers for under your doors as ferrets can squeeze into the most unlikely or areas, and make sure there are no hidey-holes they will be able to get into where you cannot access them, this is when it is best to buy them some tubes and toys to race through and hide in.

Buying a ferret, like any pet, is best from a breeder, because you will usually get a nice healthy and happy pet, and can usually get them in pairs. Breeders are more likely to have handled the ferrets from a few days/weeks old and have already taught them not to bite hard and where to go to the toilet by the time you receive them. They will also give you tips on caring properly for ferrets, as they have most likely had several generations before your's. Make sure you check the personality of the ferrets before buying. A lazy and cuddly ferret might be all good if you are after one like that, though you have to keep an eye on their weight and they are alot harder to find, while an energetic ferret you need to keep more of an eye on, they will be less maintainence once you have everything prepared for them and patterns set (Such as they get let out for an hour when you get home from work every day and for a few more on weekends)

If you get a ferret from a pet shop be warned that they will more than likely have a shorter life-span, be more prone to biting and drawing blood (Or not letting go at all) more aggressive in general and less likely to grow attached to you. They are also prone to having respiratory diseases.

Never use anything thing that turns to powder or sawdust for their litter, and always keep the food well away from their litter.

Why do u want a skunk if you have to keep in a cage ... Pet skunks can not be caged! and they are nothing as a rat or a ferret! There are no breeders in Michigan. I have mine in Indianna ... it never caged .. and skunks are not for everyone ... intensive care .. and if night .. will have to spend time with her during the night .. it is not necessary in a cage .. that sounds odd ..
