Final Battle Of The American Revolution Q&A

I need some help about the American Revolution?

I have to do 3 essays for my final, I'm done with 2 of them, and this is the last one.. I really need your help guys!!!

1. Describe the phases of the American Revolution. What were some of the key battles?
Why did Britain lose this war?

Well the first phase would be the New England Phase. These would consist of the battles of Lexington and Concord, Bunker Hill, Boston, and so on. The second phase would be the NY/NJ phase. Which would consist of battles such as Trenton, Kips' Bay, Germantown, Monmouth, Saratoga and so on. This would also include the independence phase. When the Declaration of Independence is drafted. The final phase would be the Southern Campaign. This would include battles like Cowpens, Guilford Courthouse, and Yorktown. This last phase would include the French joining the war and the Peace Table.
Key Battles:
Lexington and Concord: These are the battles that begin the American Revolution

Saratoga: This is the first time an entire British army surrenders to an American army. It will also lead to France joining the American side.

Monmouth: Takes place after Valley Forge. In my opinion it is where the American Army first comes into its own. The American army is able to stand toe to toe with the British army.

Cowpens and Guliford Courthouse: Nathanael Greene, who took over as commander of the Southern armies. Split his army in two. The British commander Cornwallis would chase Greene. A British commander Banastre Tarleton would chase Daniel Morgan. At Cowpens Morgan turned and defeated Tarleton. The Mel Gibson movie is loosely based upon the Battle of Cowpens. The milita was in the middle. After firing their two rounds. The milita turned to leave. The British thought they were retreating. The Americans enveloped the British and defeated them. Cornwallis was not at Cowpens. He was busy chasing Greene. At Guilford Courthouse Greene turned and attacked Cornwallis. Cornwallis won the battle because he opened fire on his own troops. Sort of the victory one could do without.

Yorktown: Because of Cowpens and Guilford Courthouse Cornwallis retreated to Yorktown. Some would say that Cornwallis had made a mistake. That he was trapped with his back to the sea. I tend to disagree. After all there was still the British Navy. Cornwallis was pinned in. The French had joined the war at this point. Washington wanted them to come north. Because he wanted to defeat the British in NY/NJ. The French Navy had just come out of the Caribbean and because of hurricane season. They could not stay long. Plus they have Cornwallis pinned down at Yorktown. Washington being smart enough to listen to others. Especially those smarter then him. Slips away from up north. The British had no idea that he had left and he comes south. Now one thing that a lot of people get wrong is that the American Revolution did not end at Yorktown. It is not the final battle of the American Revolution. It will go on for I believe another two years. Cornwallis surrenders the second British army to the Americans. This would lead to Britain going to the peace table. Another curious fact about Yorktown is that the Americans had surrendered an Army at Charleston, SC. Cornwallis sent a subordinate. The subordinate tried surrendering to a French officer. The French officer indicated that the surrender should be made to Washington. Washington indicated that the surrender should be made to his subordinate. Since one commander should surrender to another commander. The subordinate who took the British surrender was Benjamin Lincoln. Lincoln was the commander who had surrendered an American army at Charleston, SC.
