10. The first major military engagement of the American Revolution took place near?
A. Yorktown.
B. Philadelphia.
C. Saratoga.
D. Boston
C. Saratoga. This was a fort in upper New York State, where eventually one of Washington's most ardent supporters would betray him: Benedict Arnold. I would have prefered to answer, "Fort Ticonderoga" but that wasn't an option. The key to your question is the word "Major." The skirmishes near Boston at the beginning of the war certainly wouldn't be considered "major." And remember the war didn't officially start until the delegates in Philadelphia wrote the Declaration of Independence (July 4, 1776.)
(Yorktown was the last major battle; Boston was always under British control; and Philadelphia fell to the British about mid-way through the war.)
