Free Bullmastiff Puppies Q&A
Bullmastiffs- few questions regarding other animals and living space?
My boyfriend and I currently have 2 ferrets who are very spoiled and have run of much of the apartment. They sleep in the master bathroom at night and are in there if we are not home, otherwise they are free to roam the attached bedroom. My boyfriend is very set on getting a bullmastiff but I am very worried about this for a couple reasons. The first concern I have is how well a puppy may be able to bond to the ferrets. I know other individuals whose dogs grew up with the ferrets and they are all best friends, but they definitely were not bullmastiffs! Also, we live in an apartment and I am worried that it is cruel to limit the majority of the dogs time to such a small space with no yard of his own. Lastly, I had planned to wait a year or so before purchasing a small breed dog of my own, which would be no more than 20 pounds as an adult, but now that my boyfriend is so intent on a Bullmastiff I feel I may need to get both dogs at the same time so they can grow up together. Any ideas?
Bullmastiff's will do ok in an apartment as long as they are given plenty of excercise. Just because you live in an apartment, doesn't mean you shouldn't be able to choose what breeds you would like.
I live in an apartment too, but having my share experiences with dogs in apartments, practically any dog can live in an apartment depending on how active your lifestyle is. Most Mastiff's do good in apartment because they are inactive in the house. People say because of how big they are, they need room to roam which isn't true. Breeds such as Rotts, Dobies, Shepherds, Labs, etc. can be ok in an apartment, but they are active indoors and need tons of excercise to avoid destructive behavoir.
Also, reguarding other animals, the dog should be properly socialized around other dogs and animals to avoid dog or animal aggression. As long as they grow up together and the dog is properly socialized, there should be no problems.
