French Bull Dog Breeders Q&A

French Bull dogs?

Hi, I'm purchasing a frenchie from a local breeder. She says the dog has AKC papers, 1 year health warantee, and I need to get it cked within 72 hours from my vet. Also, she wants cash. I'm paying 1,200 for the pup, it is a brindle white male. Few questions.
-Does anything said here sound unusual?
-How do I tell if it's healthy
-What should I, as a responsible buyer, ask for. Would it be rude to ask for the warantee in writing, or ask for the papers?

Thanks guys, I'm really new to this. I've always rescued dogs, but this is always something I've wanted.
one user reccomends a contract?!?! what does this mean, can anyone explain what I should e-mail her for?
A little side not- I'm not buying the Dog online, I never even inferred that...I'm driving 3 hours to the families house. And calm down, everything is going to be ok.

Check the akc papers, if you are unsure ring the AKC to insure that the breeder is registered.
Definitely get the warantee in writing (signed) and ask for the papers if you want them.
Make sure you check the puppys' general health and temperament before buying. If you don't know what you're looking for take someone with you who does. The pups eyes should be bright, it should have a clean glossy coat, have a clean/puppy smell, no signs of a "worm belly", no fleas or flea dirt, the pups pen should be clean and smell "normal", the pups should all be responsive and social. If the pup is under 7 1/2 weeks it should be with its mother so don't take it home any earlier than this. Spend some time with the pup to keep an eye out for any problems. You should be able to view the other pups in the litter and at least one of the parents, to check for any other potential problems. I'd also ask the breeder what sort of socialisation the puppy has had up to this point. Puppyhood is the critical socialisation period for a dog and this all starts with the breeder.
If the breeder won't answer questions or allow you to do any of this then i would steer clear.
Good luck with getting a frenchie.
