How was George Washington before, during and after the American Revolution, did he change?
i basically have to write an essay on how george washington was before during and after the american revolution, and add if he was overated or underated.
Washington set a standard of behavior of himself of being a perfect gentleman...you have to understand what that meant in the 18th century.
Gentlemen were supposed to be "enlightened" and "disinterested" and "polite".
Enlightened meant they had a world outlook, giving up superstitions, dogmatic thinking and looking for facts and knowledge.
Disinterested meant they looked at things, particulary politics and monetary issues, without any special interests such as where they hoped to make money, what would be good for them, and looked at what would be good overall.
Polite is more than good manners...it is getting along with a variety of people, making everyone comfortable, not having extreme opinions that grate on anyone else, avoiding contfrontations.
this is how GW ran his whole life, so he hardly changed in that respect.
Over0rated? In a poll, Reagan was declared the "best President" Washington was way down the ranks...anyone who studied history would rate him tops.
The USA would be very different without him.
