How can I help my Rescue German Shepard get passed her Fear Aggesion?
She was abused in her "past life" by a man... She doesn't take to meeting new people well (especially men). She growls, barks..has lashed out and bit... After this happens she acts like she feels bad. I have put a soft muzzle on her when introducing her to protect her and the new person. This seems to help... but I don't like muzzling her. There is more to her abuse story.. but that's the short of it. She took to me right away and in almost no time took to my husband... so she can do it.. she just wants to be loved and pet non-stop. She's just a love bug waiting to bloom
I would advise treat training her with people.If you have some close friends or co workers who are willing to help.First have the new person come to meet the dog,tell them to not approach the dog or even pay attention to her,treat the dog when the person is near,and praise her.Gradually she will get used to new people and will go to them on her own.It may take some time but German shepherds are worth the effort.
