German Shepherd Puppies In Illinois Q&A
What are some good puppy toys?
This is kind of far off, but next May/June I am thinking about buying a German Shepherd (i am still in school and if i were to get one today i couldn't raise it properly, so i decided that the responsible thing to do is just wait until i can, and it also gives me time to save up for shots, nuttering/spaying, deworming, any medications, etc.). So in that list are also buying him/her some toys. I heard that GSDs love water, so i want to buy a kiddy pool for him/her, also a nice big dog bed for him/her, and from there on i do not know what to get, so can you help me out?
And, next summer i am going to go on a road trip to California (and everything in between, i live in illinois), i had heard that taking a GSD puppy on a road trip is a great way to socialize him/her, do you think that i should? And i won't be the only one going, my brother might come and so will my friend and maybe a few other people.
I would leave the purchase of the puppy until you return home from your road trip. That way the puppy will have a secure and stable start to it's life.
A road trip with a crowd of young people who are hell bent on having a good time is no life for a puppy. There are far better ways of socialising a pup than what you have planned.
Wait until you can give the pup your full attention and spend time training it.
Then you can choose which toys are suitable.

German Shepherd Puppies In Illinois Q&A
My dog needs training, but has fully grown?
Chihuahua My dog is 1 year old and need serious training. I know I should have started training him when he first got it, but not necessarily thinking about getting a dog. Not very prepared with the kind of dog they were receiving. We are not new to this, we now have a German Shepherd / Chow Mix we have of a refuge he was about 2 and broke home-based work just to sit, stay, go with it. Our Chihuahua on the contrary is absolutely out of control and we have no idea of what to do! Puppy Training classes are out of the question because he is old, and I doubt this is a situation that could handle by ourselves in home. Have a suggestion? Or websites for private instructors who would be willing to work with a dog that is not good with new people? PLEASE HELP! PS live Illinois
Many professional trainers enable training at home (just make sure to hide anything you do not feel comfortable with a see complete stranger, LOL). NOT TOO LATE TO LEARN FOR YOUR DOG. The only major problem we have at this age is that your dog has already matured me more independent (And less willing to listen to mom and dad). You say you're out of control? Is it hyperactive? Aggressive? Possessive? The best advice I can give is to contact with the Humane Society or dog club, and ask them to recommend a trainer (I'm not advising to give up your dog! Just get a recommendation from someone who knows what to look!). Most coaches will have some type of certification that possess their own dogs, they will have contacts for you talk to you can say what they thought of the coach, etc. Most work at home to deal with obstacles such as waiting at the door, do not jump on furniture, not to break the pillows and the base, sit, down, stay, come, etc. To you, because of the race that has, I recommend a trainer who promotes calm (so your dog does not get too excited and can not focus), use mild correction (without feet, neck static mats, etc), and use motivational tools like a toy or treated. Some coaches also offer basic adult education classes, which are the equivalent of puppy classes, but emphasized more control over your dog. While is not aggressive dog that can do well in one of these classes. If you have a problem with the coach of a method, I ask you, if your answer does not comply with keep asking, if can not explain her method then find a new coach. A good coach knows what they are doing:) Good luck Alika613 http://www.politepuppypaws.com/?referrer=uscity.net http:// http://finecanine.com/?referrer=uscity.net! www.bigskydogtraining.com/?referrer=uscity.net
