Breeding a black great dane to a merle piebald?
I was just curious as to what a black bred to a piebald great dane would produce. I've been looking up information on this and keep getting different answers, so does anyone have any ideas? It would be great if you had experience with this. The black great dane is from black to black breeding and almost every dog in his pedigree is black. The merle piebald is from a harlequin to harlequin breeding. Just curious as to what the pups would be. Probably wont be breeding them either way. Just curious.
I'm honestly just curious. I really don't have time to breed or the money that it involves to get the proper testing. I love great danes and I am fascinated by genetics

Danes do come in some interesting colors and combinations! When you say piebald, do you actually mean white spotted like a Beagle? Or do you mean a Harlequin Dane who has irregular black patches over a white coat?
Assuming you mean he's a harlequin, the genetic makekup of a harlie is BB Mm Hh
B - black pigment
M - merle
m - not merle
H - Harlequin (fades blue areas to white)
h - not harlequin
Almost all Danes are homozygous for black (BB)
A Harlie has both the merle gene and the harlequin gene working together to make a black patches on white. The merle gene dilutes the background and the harlequin gene dilutes what would be the blue on a blue merle to white. The Harlequin gene is lethal when homozygous, so all Harlies are Hh.
Your black Dane would be BB mm hh
His pigment color is black, he is not a merle, and he is not a harlequin.
Mating these two together (this is actually a preferred breeding for harlie breeders)
Harlie BB Mm Hh x Black BB mm hh ------> BB Mm Hh (harlies), BB mm Hh (mismarked black )
